Living in Accountable Relationships with Fellow Believers

Attribute #2 of a Marketplace Ambassador

In December’s ADG Insider, we discussed Attribute #1 of a Marketplace Ambassador, Walking Daily in Intimacy with Jesus. This will always remain foundational as we build these attributes into our lives. However, even though we may have our quiet times and pray often with the best of intentions, there are times when circumstance in our life do not go as planned. We may find ourselves dealing with situations where accountability to other Christians becomes extremely important.

For many of us, our natural tendency is to withdraw, isolate, and internalize our thoughts when things get tough. As we contemplate our next steps, I would suggest that we should do just the opposite. Over time, I have found that having a group of trusted accountability partners in my life has made an incredible difference in my marriage, my relational and work challenges, and in just about every other area of my life. As I have learned to open up and seek counsel from and accountability to other Christians, my perspective significantly improves as well as the amount of possible solutions that are revealed.

As you consider what it means to live in accountable relationships with other believers, here are some verses to dig into. PROVERBS 27:17 As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another. HEBREWS 10:24-25 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching. Response questions:

  • Why is important to have people in your life with whom you can share openly without fear of being judged?

  • Who in your life can you be 100% transparent with?

  • What steps will you take to bring accountability into your life?
